Congratulations to our Faculty

Leisa Rundquist (Department of Art and Art History chair and Assistant Professor of Art History) curated the exhibition, Betwixt and Between: Henry Darger’s Vivian Girls, at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art in Chicago and spoke multiple times, both to the public at Intuit and to students from School of the Art Institute of Chicago on the exhibition and Henry Darger.  The exhibition opened on April 12 and continues through September 4, 2017. Tamie Beldue (Associate Professor, drawing) had two pieces selected for publication in Manifest Creative Research Gallery's International Drawing Annual, INDA 12. The award-winning international publication from the Cincinnati, Ohio, gallery was juried by an eleven-member panel of professional and academic volunteer advisors with a broad range of expertise. The jury then passed along their scores from the 1,540 entries by 483 artists to the project curator/editor who assembled the final selections from the jury-approved pool. Beldue's drawings, Transitory Nude and Moving Light, are two of 120 works by 76 artists that were accepted. Publication date to be ammounced.

Tamie Beldue (Associate Professor, drawing) had two pieces (Moving Light and Rhythm) included in Drawn to Creating: A Survey of Contemporary Drawing Invitational Group Exhibition at the Lore Degenstein Gallery of Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, April 22 – May 17, 2017.  (Moving Light, graphite, watercolor, charcoal & cold wax and Rhythm, graphite, watercolor, charcoal & cold wax)

Tamie Beldue was in the exhibition, Tamie Beldue + Christina Brinkman, in the Showcase Gallery at Blue Spiral, Asheville, May 4 - June 23, 2017. Described as "Emotive and evocative, Beldue's drawings capture the unique and individual quality of their subjects without extraneous sentiment. Understated and graceful, Brinkman's ceramic forms in porcelain convey gesture and spontaneity."

Tamie Beldue has drawings in Philadelphia's Stanek Gallery's First Summer Invitational. The exhibition features a diverse collection  of works by an exceptional group of accomplished artists. The public opening will take place on Friday, July 7, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.; the exhibition will continue through Saturday, August 12, 2017.

Brent Skidmore (Associate Professor, sculpture) had two pieces (Place of Purity and Slice of Emotive Landscape) in the Dogwood Arts Regional Art Exhibition, Dogwood Arts’ Office Gallery, Knoxville, Tennessee. The exhibition was juried by Leslie Noell, programs director at the Penland School of Crafts; Place of Purity was selected as a Merit Award.The exhibition will be on view June 1-31, 2017.

Jackson Martin (Assistant Professor, sculpture) had two pieces (Weight in Silver and Shanty) in the Dogwood Arts Regional Art Exhibition, at the Dogwood Arts’ Office Gallery in Knoxville, Tennessee. The exhibition was juried by Leslie Noell, programs director at the Penland School of Crafts; Jackson was awarded third place for Weight in Silver. The exhibition will be on view June 1-31, 2017.

Jackson Martin has Nature or Nurture in the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts ArtDetour Exhibition at the Dogwood Arts’ Office Gallery, Knoxville, Tennessee. The exhibition of work by Arrowmont faculty was hosted by Arrowmont and Dogwood Regional Arts and was on view May 5 - 26, 2017. "The exhibit showcases work from over 100 visiting instructors [displaying] a diverse and engaging representation of the techniques taught here at Arrowmont and the innovation, artistic growth and creative camaraderie unique to the Arrowmont community."
