About the Artist

Aaron Gibbons primarily works in wood, metal and found objects. He creates sculpture and functional art with a desire to bring out the natural beauty in an object or material.

Aaron has a bachelor’s degree in art with a concentration in sculpture and a teaching license from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. He says that "UNCA was great place for me to grow as an artist and gain the experience needed to become an arts educator. The small class sizes and individual attention I received proved vital to my success." He began his professional art training at Surry Community College and at Sawtooth School of Visual Arts.

A process that has quickly become one of his passions is woodworking with live edge slabs. By salvaging his own logs and having them custom milled he can acquire exactly what he wants out of a tree. He strives to use the whole tree even using cut offs and scraps to make stunning functional ware.

Aaron is a full time employee with Mount Airy City schools where he is the Elementary Art Teacher, but most evenings and weekends Aaron can be found in his home studio.
