John Rudel (Class of 1999, BFA with a concentration in painting) has a solo exhibition at the Pink Dog Gallery in the River Arts District in Asheville August 7–September 26, 2015. The work in Pick a Number is completed entirely on found pieces of stainless steel, with photographic transfers, spray paint, aluminum tape, color pencil, ink, acrylic paint, and adhesive letters and numbers. Rudel says the title references the tendency of individuals to engage in games of chance with a belief that they can somehow intuit a positive outcome. Rudel is the Batten Associate Professor of Art and Curator of Exhibitions at Virginia Weselyn College in Norfolk, Virginia. Read more about Rudel on his website.
