2017 Chancellor's Purchase Award

Nathan Butcher is from Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He writes, "I'm a second-semester freshman at UNC Asheville and I plan on majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Art.  I love creating art.  I grew up in a very artistic household.  My mother is an Elementary Art teacher and my father loves to either play or listen to music. I'm not totally sure what my future plans are with a major in Environmental Studies, but I am very passionate about environmental conservation and the problems that face the environment in today's society.  I will probably pursue a higher degree whether it be a masters or doctorate.  I also plan to keep up with my art because it is something that brings me a lot of joy."

Nathan Butcher was awarded the 2017 Chancellor's Purchase Award from the 50th Anniversary Juried Student Exhibition for a collage entitled Robin and the Kingbird.
