Clarence Morgan Exhibition opens February 8

"Clarence Morgan: Images of Wonder" Exhibition

Visiting artist Clarence Morgan will discuss his work on February 8, 5­­:00–6:00 p.m. in Owen Hall 237. A reception celebrating his recent work, "Images of Wonder," will follow immediately after in S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, 6:00­­–8:00 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.The exhibition continues through March 4, 2013

Clarence Morgan is a painter, lecturer, and occasional writer who resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. Solo and group exhibitions include the Beijing Film Academy Gallery, Reeves Contemporary (New York), Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), James Madison University, Sawhill Gallery (Virginia), Romo Gallery (Atlanta), York College of Pennsylvania, Harwood Museum of Art (New Mexico), David Lusk Gallery (Memphis), Kidder Smith (Boston), Thomas Barry Fine Art (Minneapolis), Rosenberg Kaufman Fine Art (New York), Palmer Art Museum (Pennsylvania), Art in General (New York).

Morgan received his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978 and a four-year certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts in 1975. (Recently, in May 2012, he received the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts' Distinguished Alumni Award.) Grants include a Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship, McKnight Foundation Artist Fellowship, Jerome Foundation Travel and Study Grant, Minnesota State Arts Board Grant, North Carolina Arts Council Visual Artist Fellowship, Southern Arts Federation NEA Regional Fellowship, a grant from Art Matters, Inc. His work is included in the collections of the Cleveland Art Museum, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Art Institute, General Mills, and the University of Alabama, among others. Morgan is a member of the faculty in the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he is a full professor and former chair of the department.

This exhibition is made possible by funding in part from the UNC Asheville Cultural Events, The Visiting Artist Scholar Fund, the Arts and Ideas Program, the Intercultural Center and Multicultural Student Programs. In addition, the artist wishes to acknowledge generous support from the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), Office of the Vice Present for Research.
